Buying guide
Where can you buy high-quality human hair extensions in Germany?
In short: You can buy human hair extensions at the hairdresser, in an online shop or on a marketplace. At EchtHaar Direkt, you order online and choose the length (40 to 130 cm), quantity, texture and color yourself, from over 70 shades or as a custom color matched to a photo. Each set is made from 100% human hair from Vietnam after your order is placed. Delivery time 10–14 working days, shipping within Germany is free, and you can also pay on invoice or in installments with Klarna. Tape Extensions are available from 191,00 € for 40 cm and 100 g. The hairdresser is the most convenient and the most expensive route; marketplaces are a gamble, because there nobody stands behind the quality. What makes quality is the same everywhere — and you can check it yourself in five minutes.
There are four routes, and they differ less in price than in how much you can decide yourself. This page tells you which one is right when — and how to recognize good hair before you pay.
Where can I get high-quality human hair extensions in Germany?
In Germany, you can buy high-quality human hair extensions at the hairdresser, in online shops with ready-made sets, or online made to measure. Look for 100% human hair with an intact, uniformly aligned cuticle layer, honestly stated tip fullness and a clear delivery time. At EchtHaar Direkt, you order Echthaar Extensions online made to measure in 40 to 130 cm, and they are fitted at the hairdresser on site.
Where can I have human hair extensions professionally applied?
Bondings, tapes and wefts are fitted by a hairdresser or stylist who works with exactly this method. Ask in advance about experience, duration and the price for fitting. Clip-ins you apply yourself. The salon finder on EchtHaar Direkt lists partner salons where you can book hair and appointment in one step.
The four routes compared
1. At the hairdresser
Hair and work from one source, one invoice, one appointment. This is the most convenient route — and the most expensive, because the salon buys the hair and passes it on with a markup. The second point often weighs more: you get what the salon stocks. If only lengths up to 60 centimeters are on the shelf, that is your selection.
2. In an online shop with ready-made sets
Cheaper than the salon, available immediately, a wide range of colors. The catch lies in the word ready-made: length, quantity and sorting are predetermined. If you want 90 centimeters in a specific shade with full tips, you almost never find it on the shelf — and what isn’t available isn’t made.
3. Made to measure online
No intermediary, which is why the hair price is usually the lowest — and the route on which you are most likely to define every property yourself: length, weight, texture, color, method, tip fullness. The price for this is time: what is made individually is not sitting in a warehouse. With us, it takes 10–14 working days.
4. On marketplaces
The lowest prices and the greatest risk. On large platforms, many sellers show the same picture, but not the same goods. If a set tangles after two months, the seller is often no longer there. Claims such as “Premium AAAAA+” are especially common there — and there is no standard for them; the number of asterisks is made up.
How to recognize good hair — before you buy
Almost every shop writes “100% Remy human hair, best quality”. The sentence costs nothing and, on its own, says nothing. “Remy” is not a protected term — nobody checks who uses the word. It only means that all the hairs are sorted in the same direction of growth, as they grew on the head.
But that is exactly the point where extensions are decided. If individual hairs lie in the wrong direction within the set, their cuticles rub against each other. That feels soft at first and, after a few washes, tangles from the inside out. If your extensions suddenly knot after four weeks, you usually don’t have a care problem, but a sorting problem.
The second major point is the coating. There are two ways to prevent hair from tangling: clean sorting — or an acid bath that removes the cuticle layer, followed by silicone. Hair treated this way is mirror-smooth at first. After five to ten washes, the coating is gone, and then it goes quickly: dull, straw-like, impossible to comb. That is why reviews after two weeks are worthless. A review only becomes meaningful after the second month.
Five checks you can do yourself
- The water test. Place a strand in a glass of water. Human hair soaks up water and sinks; synthetic hair floats on top.
- The friction test. Pull a strand between your fingers from tip to root. It should feel smoother in one direction than in the other. If it feels the same both ways, the cuticle layer has been removed or covered with silicone.
- The wash test. Wash a sample strand three times with silicone-free shampoo. If the feel changes significantly, there was a coating on it.
- The tip test. Hold the strand up to the light. If the lower third visibly tapers to a point, the tip fullness is low — not automatically bad, but it has to be reflected in the price.
- The heat test. Hold a single hair at a distance to a flame. Human hair smolders and smells burnt; synthetic hair melts into a ball and smells of plastic.
All the terms are explained in detail in How to really recognize good hair.
How to recognize an honest product page
A good description states the weight in grams rather than only the number of strands, specifies the sorting or tip fullness, says for curly hair that chemical treatment was used, explains the delivery time instead of hiding it, and describes what happens in the event of a complaint. If all of this is missing and there is only “Premium AAAAA+ Remy” instead, the number of asterisks is made up.
One point that hardly anyone states openly: as soon as a set contains multiple colors, the hair comes from several sources — different donor heads, different textures. That such sets form knots more quickly is a property of the material, not a manufacturing defect. A single-colored set is the more durable choice.
What the price really means
The price consists of two separate blocks, and anyone who lumps them together is comparing apples with oranges:
- The hair — in the online shop or from the dealer. Length, weight and sorting determine the price. One meter of hair costs many times more than 40 centimeters, because such long strands are rare.
- The labor — at the hairdresser. Billed by time and number of strands. For bondings, 150 to 400 euros are typical in German salons; for tapes, 120 to 220 euros. These are salon prices, not prices from EchtHaar Direkt.
And the item that almost nobody mentions in advance: moving up. The connection grows out and must be renewed every six to twelve weeks. With good care, the hair itself lasts one to two years and endures several rounds — you pay for the hair once and the labor several times. The total is calculated in the cost calculator.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy real hair extensions most affordably?
Without middlemen, that is, directly from an online shop that makes custom-fitted pieces. But the most affordable option isn’t the same as the cheapest: a set that tangles after two months is the most expensive choice, because you have to buy it twice.
Do I have to buy extensions from the hairdresser?
No. Many salons will also fit hair you bring in and only charge for the work. Ask beforehand: some add a surcharge, some don’t, and a few only work with their own products.
How can I recognise synthetic hair?
The quickest way is the heat test: real hair singes and smells burnt, while synthetic hair melts into a hard ball and smells like plastic. The water test also works: real hair sinks, synthetic hair floats.
How long does a custom order take?
With us, 10–14 working days, with a custom colour 12–16 working days. That is the price of having the length, quantity, texture, and colour made exactly as you specified them. If you need something sooner, you’ll find individual sets available to ship immediately.
Can I pay by invoice?
Yes, by invoice or in instalments with Klarna. At checkout you select “Klarna (invoice, instalments or Pay Now)” and then choose within Klarna whether you pay by invoice, in instalments, or immediately. Which of these options is shown to you is decided by Klarna when you place your order. We add nothing to the price for Klarna. Whether instalment payments through Klarna incur any costs is shown to you before you complete the purchase. Business customers pay by invoice via Billie. All payment options are explained on the page Buy extensions with Klarna, and invoice purchases on the page Extensions on invoice.
Which method should I choose?
That depends on your natural hair, not on the trend. Bondings last the longest, tapes are gentler on fine hair, wefts add the most volume in a single appointment, and clip-ins come out again in the evening. All four side by side, with lengths and costs, are listed under Buy hair extensions.
