Extension Lengths from 40 to 130 cm: Where Does Each One Really End?
In short: At a height of around 165 cm, 40 cm ends at the shoulder blade, 50 cm at the chest, 60 cm at the waist, 80 cm at the hip, 90 cm at the bottom, 100 cm at the thigh and 130 cm well below the thigh. At EchtHaar Direkt, you’ll find all 19 lengths from 40 to 130 cm in five-centimeter steps.
Where does which length end?
Schematic preview, not a photo montage. It shows guideline values, because head shape, hairline height and torso length are different for every person.
50 cm ends at about chest level
Allow for a deviation of three to five centimeters up or down. If you have a long torso, the hair will tend to land higher; with a short one, lower. And the longer the length, the more grams you need so the ends don't look thin.
Centimeter figures don’t tell you much until you know where they land on you. Enter your height and see for yourself.
The same length looks completely different on two people. 60 centimeters reaches one woman’s waist and another’s hip, and that’s not down to the hair, but to height and torso length. That’s why there isn’t a single number here, but a preview that you can adjust to yourself.

How the length is measured
Length is measured from the root of the strand to the tip, when stretched out straight. That sounds obvious, but it isn’t: with wavy and curly hair, the worn length is noticeably shorter than the measured length because the wave pulls it up. For strongly wavy hair, expect about ten percent less visible length, and more for curls.
The second point many people overlook: the strand doesn’t hang from the parting, but a little below it, usually between the crown and the back of the head. Depending on the height of the attachment point, the result shifts by three to five centimeters. The preview above calculates with a medium attachment point.
Guide values for average height
| Length | At a height of 165 cm, it ends at about |
|---|---|
| 30 cm | Shoulder |
| 40 cm | Shoulder blade |
| 45 cm | Chest |
| 50 cm | Chest |
| 55 cm | Below the chest |
| 60 cm | Waist |
| 65 cm | Waist |
| 70 cm | Above the hip |
| 80 cm | Hip |
| 90 cm | Bottom |
| 100 cm | Thigh |
If you’re taller, every length moves up; if you’re shorter, it moves down. At a height of 175 centimeters, 60 centimeters tends to end at the waist rather than the hip. Simply set the preview above to your height, and it will be right for you.
Why longer hair needs more grams
The same number of grams spread over more length automatically looks thinner. A 125-gram set looks full at 45 centimeters and wispy at 75 centimeters, because the hair thins out toward the ends. As a rough guide: for every ten centimeters of extra length, add about 25 grams, or alternatively choose a higher tip fullness.
For very long sets, tip fullness is usually the better choice than even more weight, because extra weight pulls at the root, while tip fullness only adds volume where the hair looks thin. You can see what that costs in the cost calculator, and how many grams suit your hair density is explained in the quantity guide.
Which length suits which plan
40 cm: add density instead of length
For when your own hair already has the length you want and just looks thin. The transition is the least noticeable, because hardly any difference in length has to be bridged. It’s also the right choice for bobs and lobs, where longer hair stands out immediately.
45 to 55 cm: the everyday range
The most popular range. Visibly longer, but still easy to handle, blow-dry and tie up. If you’re wearing extensions for the first time, this is the range where the least can go wrong. Human hair extensions in 60 cm and human hair extensions in 70 cm show exactly where these lengths end.
60 to 70 cm: the eye-catching range
Noticeably longer, noticeably more impact, and noticeably more care required. From here on, a higher tip fullness is worthwhile, otherwise the ends look thin. The transition to your own hair also takes more skill so that no step forms.
From 80 cm: stage, photo, occasion
This is no longer an everyday range. Lengths like these are almost always chosen for performances, photo shoots and weddings. We make them up to 130 centimeters, but to be honest: we advise against them for everyday wear, because the weight pulls at the root and the hair gets in the way everywhere.
Whether your desired length will be ready in time is answered by our reply to the question “Will my order arrive in time for my appointment?”
Frequently asked questions about length
From what length of my own hair are extensions possible?
Rule of thumb: from about ten to fifteen centimeters of your own hair. Shorter rarely works cleanly, because the attachment is then no longer covered and becomes visible when you tie your hair up. With very short hair, an intermediate step with less length is often the better route.
How much shorter does wavy hair look?
With a slight wave, hardly at all; with strongly wavy hair, around ten percent; with curls, noticeably more. If you want curls and have a particular final length in mind, it’s better to choose the length one step up.
Can I have my extensions cut shorter?
Yes, and that’s actually the normal case. After the extensions are fitted, the transition to your own hair is blended in so that no step forms. Expect two to five centimeters to be taken off in the process, and factor that in when you order.
Why do you offer 130 cm if you advise against it?
Because there are occasions that call for exactly that, such as stage performances and photo productions. We don’t recommend it for everyday wear, and we say so even when someone wants to order it.
Are the figures in the preview exact?
They are guide values. Head shape, attachment height and the length of your torso shift the result by three to five centimeters. That’s more than enough for deciding between 50 and 60 centimeters, but not for hitting an exact centimeter.
Conclusion
Don’t decide based on the number of centimeters, but on the spot on your body where you want the hair to end. Set the preview to your height, go one step up for waves and curls, and factor in the two to five centimeters that are taken off during blending. Then it will be right the first time.
