Hairpiece for thinning areas: topper or hair thickening?
For a thinning spot at the parting or crown, a topper is the right hairpiece. It sits in your own hair with clips and covers exactly the area where your scalp shows through; your own hair stays visible all around it. If, on the other hand, you lack fullness in the lengths rather than on top, hair thickening with extensions is enough.
The size depends on the area: measure it and choose the smallest base that safely covers it, 3×5, 4×4, 5×5 or 5×6 inches (approx. 7.5×12.5 cm to 12.5×15 cm). For toppers, 100 to 175 g of hair is typical, preferably less rather than more. Every topper is made from 100 % human hair to your specifications, in 40 to 130 cm and in over 70 colors or as a custom color matched from a photo, starting at €243.45 for 40 cm with 100 g. With good care, the hair lasts 1 to 2 years.
Base size: how to choose the right one
The available base sizes are 3×5, 4×4, 5×5 and 5×6. These measurements are in inches, not centimetres: 4×4 is roughly 10 × 10 cm. The base should reliably cover the thinning area, but no more than that, because a base that is too large will show at the edge. Measure the area beforehand. Length, amount, texture and color
- Length: 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130 cm.
- Amount from 100 g, lace density 50, 80 or 95 to 100 %.
- Texture: straight, slightly wavy, medium wavy or heavily wavy, permanent wave or curly.
- Colour from the colour chart or as a custom colour matched to a photo of your hair.
Topper at the hairline: hairline topper for a receding hairline
If your hair is receding at the front hairline, we offer two options, both made to measure from 100 % human hair. The first is a topper with the “Lace front with silicone band” base: the front edge is a fine lace, the topper sits in your own hair with clips and is positioned far enough forward that the lace forms your new hairline. You choose this base in the configurator under “Topper base” for a 10 % surcharge; the configurator shows the exact amount. You then choose the smallest base size that reliably covers the area at the hairline (3×5 to 5×6 inches). A hairline topper is therefore not a separate product, but a topper with a lace front, worn at the front.
The second option is the lace frontal: it runs from ear to ear across the entire front hairline, in 2×6, 13×4 or 13×6 inches, and is the right choice if the whole front hairline is thin and not just one spot. If your hair is very thin overall and your roots can no longer support any weight, a wig is the more honest solution. We'll tell you which option suits you before you order, based on a photo taken in daylight; if your hair is thinning suddenly or in limited areas, you should have this checked by a doctor first.
Topper or wig?
If you have a thinning spot at the parting or crown, the topper is the right choice because your own hair stays visible. If all of your hair is to be replaced, a full wig is the answer. You can put either together in the configurator for wigs, toppers and ponytails. If your hair suddenly falls out or falls out in limited areas, you should have this checked by a doctor: a topper covers, it doesn't treat.
Topper or ponytail: which suits you?
That depends on where your hair is thinning. If your parting is getting wider and your scalp shows through on top, a topper is the right choice: it covers exactly the area at the crown where extensions can't hold. If you want a long, thick ponytail for an evening, go for the ponytail piece. It doesn't solve a hair problem, but it gives you a full ponytail in under a minute. Extra-long toppers: 80, 100 and 130 cm
Most toppers in stores end at 40 to 50 cm. But if you have long natural hair, you need a topper that reaches your own length, otherwise you'll see a step. That's why our toppers are available in every length up to 130 cm. The topper is made to match your hair and can be blended to your own length by your hairdresser.
Who a topper is right for
- A thinning or widening part where the scalp shows through.
- Thin crown while the hair at the sides and back is still thick.
- More fullness at the crown for a special occasion, without permanently attaching extensions.
If the hair is very thin all over your head, a human hair wig is usually the better choice. If you only need extra length or a little more volume in the lengths, Clip-in Extensions or hair thickening are a good fit.
How to put on the topper
- Comb your hair as usual and create your part.
- Place the topper so that it covers the thinning area in the center.
- Open the clips, place them close to the roots in your own hair and close them.
- Comb the topper hair and your own hair together so the transition disappears.
In the evening, take the topper out so the clips don't pull on the same spot permanently.
What is the difference between a topper and a hairpiece?
A topper is a hairpiece for the crown of the head. It is attached to your own hair with clips and covers a thinning area at the part or on the crown, while your own hair stays visible all around it. A wig, by contrast, covers the entire head.
Why human hair instead of synthetic hair?
A topper made from 100 % human hair falls and shines like your own hair. You can wash, blow-dry, straighten or curl it, using heat protection just like with your own hair. Synthetic hair usually can't handle heat and looks artificial faster. Human hair can also be cut by your hairdresser and styled to suit your hairstyle.
Care
