Wig Guide

Lace Closure, Lace Frontal or HD Lace: the difference in human hair wigs, and how to take your measurements

In short: the lace is the fine, translucent material at the hairline that makes your parting look like it’s growing from your scalp. A Lace Closure covers only the parting area (4×4, 5×5 or 6×6 inches), while a Lace Frontal runs from ear to ear across the entire front hairline (2×6, 13×4 or 13×6). HD Lace is the finer, more invisible lace material, and HD Mesh is the step in between. At EchtHaar Direkt, you choose everything in the configurator, custom-made in 40 to 130 cm, from 243,45 € for 40 cm and 100 g.

Closure, Frontal, HD Lace, HD Mesh, 4×4, 13×6: the terms from our wig configurator, explained, with surcharges, and with measuring instructions for the perfect fit.

Closure, Frontal, full wig: what’s what?

TypeWhat it coversSizes in the configuratorPrice
Lace Closureonly the parting area; the rest of the hairline stays your natural hair or weft4×4, 5×5 (+5 %), 6×6 (+12 %) inchesBase price
Lace Frontalthe entire front hairline from ear to ear; parting can be placed freely, hair can be pinned back2×6 (−20 %), 13×4, 13×6 (+5 %)−5 % on the base price
Full wig (Wig) with lacethe whole head, with adjustable bands and clips; lace size 2×6, 7×7 (+8 %), 13×4 (+10 %), 13×6 (+15 %)Lace size selectable, surcharges see sizes+5 % for the full wig (“Method” field)

The numbers are inches: 4×4 is about 10 × 10 cm, 13×4 about 33 × 10 cm, so all the way across the forehead. The wider the lace, the more freedom you have when styling: with 2×6, a center parting is possible, while with 13×6 you can place the parting anywhere and pin your hair back.

Standard lace, HD Lace or HD Mesh?

  • Standard lace: the standard material, no surcharge. It lies on the skin and lets the hairline show through.
  • HD Lace (+8 %): finer and thinner, visibly blends better with the scalp when the hairline is worn out.
  • HD Mesh (+4 %): the step in between the two.

In addition to the lace, there’s the construction: machine-wefted (standard, hair wefts sewn on, fixed parting) or hand-tied (“Construction” field in the configurator: +25 %, every hair knotted in individually, parting can be placed freely). For a visible hairline worn out, the combination of HD Lace + hand-tied is the finest; for updos and fixed partings, standard lace + machine-wefted is enough. What suits whom

  • Closure: if only the parting needs to look natural and your hair is mostly worn down and back or in a ponytail. The most affordable lace solution.
  • Frontal: if you show your hairline, pin your hair back or switch your parting. Needs a bit more care at the hairline.
  • Full wig with lace: if all of your hair is to be replaced; choose the lace size according to the styling freedom you want.
  • Topper instead of lace: if only the parting is thin, a Topper (base 3×5 to 5×6 inches) is often enough, see the Hair Topper Guide.

All variants are available custom-made in any length from 40 to 130 cm, with 100 to 500 g of hair (full wig from 100 g), straight to curly, in over 70 colors or as a custom color based on a photo. Prices by length and quantity can be found in Custom-Made Human Hair Wig; for 100 to 130 cm in Wig, Topper and Ponytail in Extra Length.

Measuring for a wig: the three measurements

So that a Closure, Frontal or full wig stays in place without glue, the configurator asks for three measurements: your head circumference all the way around along the hairline, forehead to nape over the parting, and ear to ear across the top of your head. You’ll need a soft measuring tape and, ideally, a second person. If you’re unsure, send us the values in advance via WhatsApp at +49 1522 3002246, and we’ll take a look together before production.

The detailed guide with typical values, the measurement for Toppers and the most common measuring mistakes can be found in Measuring for a Wig: Step by Step. How the wig is then held in place is explained in How Does a Wig Stay On? Securing It Without Glue.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Lace Closure and Lace Frontal?

The Closure covers only the parting area (4×4 to 6×6 inches), while the Frontal covers the entire front hairline from ear to ear (2×6, 13×4 or 13×6). With the Frontal, you can place the parting freely and pin your hair back.

What is HD Lace?

A finer, thinner lace material that becomes more invisible on the skin than standard lace. +8 % in the configurator; HD Mesh is the step in between at +4 %.

Which lace size do I need?

2×6 is enough for a fixed center parting. 13×4 and 13×6 run from ear to ear and allow any parting and hair pinned back. 7×7 sits in between.

Does a lace wig have to be glued?

No. The fit based on your three measurements, adjustable bands and clips hold it in place. Glue is only common for special occasions, see Securing a Lace Front Wig.

Which measurements do I need for a wig?

Head circumference (typically 52 to 60 cm), forehead to nape (32 to 40 cm) and ear to ear across the top of the head (28 to 36 cm). The configurator asks for all three with an illustration.

Are lace wigs also available in 100 or 130 cm?

Yes, any length from 40 to 130 cm, also for Closure and Frontal. For long lengths, plan for more hair quantity.

Conclusion

Closure for the parting, Frontal for the whole hairline, HD Lace for the most invisible transition, hand-tied for a freely placed parting. With three measurements, everything stays in place without glue.
