You buy human hair wefts made to measure at EchtHaar Direkt: five Weft types from Machine to Butterfly Weft, in lengths from 40 to 130 cm, in over 70 colors or in a custom color matched to your photo, ab 211,00 €. Our wefts are made of 100 % human hair with a natural texture. Remy human hair: the cuticle layer runs in one direction. They are especially flexible and can be used in many ways, whether for hair extensions, adding density or creative styles. If you want to buy human hair wefts, you choose length, quantity, texture and color yourself here, and each set is then made individually.
What makes our weft extensions special
Whether you call them human hair wefts, hair wefts or weft extensions: they all mean the same thing, a continuous strip of real hair.
- 100 % human hair, silky and natural in how it falls
- Length according to your choice, full all the way to the ends
- Wide weft, easy to work with
- For hair extensions, added density or individual hairstyles
- Available in many colors, from natural brown to platinum blonde
Which weft type suits which hair?
Genius Weft is handmade and has no thick seam. The weft can be cut at any point without hair falling out. This is the thinnest variant and the right choice for fine natural hair.
Flat Weft also lies very flat against the head, but it is machine-reinforced and therefore sturdier.
Machine Weft is the classic machine-made weft: a thicker seam, but stable and more affordable. The standard for strong natural hair.
Butterfly Weft combines a thin profile with high density, and Feather Weft is especially light and soft in the blend.
Applications
Human hair wefts can be sewn in, attached with micro rings or made into Clip-ins. They are suitable for hair salons as well as for private use. With the right care, they stay soft, shiny and long-lasting.
Special feature
The wefts can be individually trimmed and adjusted without the hair losing quality. Perfect for voluminous looks and natural transitions.
How much weft hair do I need?
For added density alone, 100 grams are usually enough. For full length extensions, 150 to 200 grams are typical, and more if you have thick natural hair or from 60 centimeters upward. Unlike with Bondings, the amount is not calculated per strand but by weight. That is why wefts are often the most affordable method for larger quantities. How far 70 cm reaches on the head is shown in Human Hair Extensions in 70 cm, and how late you can order for the holidays is explained in Extensions for Christmas.

The five Weft types explained
A weft is not a single strand but a continuous strip of hair: many hairs bound together along one edge at the top. It is not placed strand by strand, but as a row. All its advantages and disadvantages come from this — very few attachment points, a great deal of hair at once.
- Machine Weft — machine-sewn, the sturdiest edge, a thicker band. The classic with the best value for money. Cannot be cut freely: every cut edge must be sealed, otherwise it will shed. For strong hair and lots of volume.
- Flat Weft — a flat, thin edge. Adds noticeably less bulk on the head and doesn’t show through. For medium hair density.
- Genius Weft — pulled through the hair by hand, an extremely thin edge. Can be cut freely without fraying — so the row can be adapted exactly to the shape of your head. For fine hair and individual head shapes.
- Feather Weft — especially light, very low weight per centimeter. Falls airy and looks less compact. For very fine hair and a natural fall.
- Butterfly Weft — a thin band with high hair density, with the hair folded upward. Lots of fullness with a flat root.
The most important difference in practice: can it be cut freely or not. A Machine Weft has to be adapted to the shape of your head by folding or using several pieces, while a Genius Weft is simply cut to size. This gives a flatter fit at the temples and the nape, where the head becomes narrower. All five compared can be found in Wefts and Weft Extensions.
How wefts are attached
The usual method in the salon is sewing in. First, small anchors are placed in your natural hair — usually micro rings or beads in a row — and the weft is sewn onto them. No heat and no glue. Depending on the amount, each side of the head needs two to four such rows.
What you should bring to your first appointment: time. One to two hours for a full set is normal. The row planning at the start determines the result — rows placed too high show through when you put your hair up, and rows placed too low add bulk at the nape. Say beforehand whether you often wear your hair up.
Who wefts are right for
For lots of volume in one appointment. Because one row brings a great deal of hair at once, the jump in the result is bigger than with any strand method. And because the weight rests on one long edge instead of individual points, nothing pulls on the root at a single spot.
For a sensitive scalp, because it is done without heat and without glue. If you have reacted to keratin Bondings with an irritated scalp, this is often the better-tolerated solution.
Less suitable for very short hair — the row has to be concealed — and for very thin top hair, because the hair above the row has to be strong enough to cover it. If your hair is thinning over a large area, that is first a question for a doctor and only then one for the method.
How much hair do you need?
The amount is calculated in grams, not in meters of band. For fine hair 100 to 125 grams, for normal density 125 to 200 grams, for thick hair up to 250 grams — and a little extra for every ten centimeters of additional length. The complete table by length and hair density can be found in How many grams do I need?
Durability and care
The stitching lasts six to eight weeks, after which the row moves down with your hair growth and is loosened and reset higher up. The hair itself lasts one to two years with good care and survives several rounds.
When it comes to care, wefts have a weak point of their own that other methods don’t have: the row itself. Shampoo and scalp oil collect under the stitching if it isn’t rinsed out thoroughly — and that is exactly where hardly any air gets in during drying. That’s why the rules are especially strict here: rinse thoroughly, blow-dry the roots along the rows, never sleep with wet hair. The instructions can be found at Washing extensions.
For removal, the sewing thread is unpicked and the anchors are opened. This is quick and chemical-free, but not something to do yourself: if you cut the thread blindly, you catch your natural hair. The hair stays intact and is reused.
Weft, hair weft, human hair weft — the same thing, three names
The terms are used interchangeably, which can be confusing when searching. They always mean the same thing: a hair weft is a continuous strip of hair in which many hairs are bound together along one edge at the top. In the industry it is called a weft; some people say weft, others hair weft, and anyone who wants to stress that it isn’t synthetic hair writes human hair wefts — often as one word.
All of these words mean the product on this page. We offer human hair wefts in five Weft types and in all 19 lengths from 40 to 130 centimeters.
The difference from the other methods is important:
- A hair weft is a continuous strip that is sewn in as a row — few attachment points, a lot of hair at once.
- Human hair strands and Bondings are individual strands, each attached separately.
- Tape Extensions are two thin panels that are stuck onto a section of your own hair.
What human hair wefts cost — and what the price depends on
With a weft, you don’t pay for a piece of band, but for an amount of hair in a particular length. That’s why it is calculated in grams, not in centimeters of band length. Three things determine the price:
- The length. The biggest factor. Long hair that doesn’t thin out at the tips is rare — so the price rises noticeably with every step, and steeply above 100 cm.
- The amount in grams. For fine hair 100 to 125 g, for normal density 125 to 200 g, for thick hair up to 250 g.
- The tip fullness. 50, 80 or 95 to 100 percent — the more of the shorter hairs are sorted out, the fuller the weft stays at the bottom and the more elaborate it is.
If you are looking for affordable human hair wefts, the biggest lever is not with the provider but in your own selection: a shorter length or one level less tip fullness changes the price much more than any discount. What your combination costs is calculated by the cost calculator — and what a low price reveals about quality can be found in How to recognize good hair.
For hair salons, volume pricing from 500 grams is available via Business customers.
Can I put in human hair wefts myself?
Not for permanent wear — sewing onto a row of micro rings belongs in practiced hands, and if you cut the thread blindly during removal, you catch your natural hair. If you want to put them in and take them out yourself, Clip-in Extensions are the better choice: the same idea of a continuous strip, only with clips instead of stitching.
What is the difference between wefts and Tape Extensions?
The attachment and the number of attachment points. A hair weft is sewn in as a row — two to four rows per side of the head are enough for a full set. Tapes are applied individually, which takes 30 to 60 pieces. Wefts last six to eight weeks until they are reset, tapes four to eight. And wefts get by without glue and without heat, which is the deciding factor for a sensitive scalp.
Frequently asked questions about wefts
What is the difference between Genius Weft and Machine Weft?
The edge. Genius Weft is pulled by hand, very thin and can be cut freely without fraying. Machine Weft is machine-sewn, sturdier and thicker, but must be sealed after cutting. Genius Weft lies flatter, while Machine Weft is less sensitive. In detail: Genius Weft or Machine Weft.
Are wefts harmful to my natural hair?
Not if the amount and fit are right. Because the weight rests on one long edge and not on individual points, the load is actually more even than with strand methods. Damage comes from sewing too tightly, too much weight and resetting too late — not from the method.
Do wefts work on short hair?
From about fifteen centimeters of natural hair, it looks clean. More important than the length is the top hair: there has to be enough hair above to cover the row.
How often do they need to be reset?
Every six to eight weeks. The row moves down with your hair growth, is opened and reset higher up. The hair stays.
Can I wear a ponytail with wefts?
Yes, if the rows were planned correctly. That is exactly why you should say before your first appointment whether you often wear your hair up. Rows placed too high are visible in a ponytail — this can be avoided beforehand and afterwards only corrected by resetting.
Which lengths are available?
Nineteen lengths in five-centimeter steps, from 40 to 130 centimeters — including the extra-long lengths that are hardly available elsewhere. Where your desired length ends is shown in Extension lengths from 40 to 130 cm.
💡 Reading tip
To go with Wefts:
Texture: from straight to curly
Every length and every color is available in six textures. Choose one that matches your own hair — otherwise the difference will be noticeable as soon as you wear your hair down:
- Straight
- Slightly wavy
- Normal wavy
- Very wavy
- Permed
- Curly
Because it’s real hair, you can straighten or curl any texture afterwards, too — with heat protection and preferably at 160 to 180 degrees.
How human hair wefts are installed
- The natural hair is parted into horizontal sections. One microring is placed per strand along each section.
- The weft is sewn onto the rings. No glue, no heat. With fine natural hair, two thin rows are better than one thick one.
- Genius Weft can be cut at any point without hair falling out. It's better to leave Butterfly Weft at full width or seal the cut edge.
- Don't wash for 24 to 48 hours after sewing in, so the stitching can settle.
How long wefts last
Two numbers you need to keep apart: The attachment lasts until your own hair has carried it too far down, about one centimeter per month. The hair itself lasts significantly longer and is reused when it is moved up. You pay for the hair once and for the labor several times.
| Bond, until moving up | Hair, with good care |
|---|---|
| 6 to 8 weeks, then the rings are opened and moved higher up | 1 to 2 years with good care |
Extra lengths: 125 and 130 centimeters
With us, the selection doesn't stop at 60 or 70 centimeters. All lengths from 40 to 130 centimeters are available in five-centimeter steps — including 100, 110, 120, 125 and 130. You select them in the configurator just like any other length. No special request, no surcharge for special wishes, no extra waiting time on top.
What you should plan for with extra length
- More weight. The same fullness needs significantly more grams at 120 centimeters than at 45. For a full look from 85 centimeters, 150 to 250 grams is typical depending on hair density, not 100.
- Don't skimp on fullness at the ends. The longer the hair, the more noticeable it is when the ends get thinner. From 100 centimeters, 80 or 95 to 100 percent is worth it.
- The price rises evenly, in fixed steps of 5 centimeters each — not in sudden jumps just because it's called a "special length."
- Care becomes more important. Very long hair gets the least of what the scalp provides at the ends. Wash two to three times a week, and always apply conditioner to the lengths afterward.
Caring for wefts
What do I wash extensions with?
Only with a sulfate-free and alcohol-free shampoo, ideally one made for extensions or dry hair. Brush through thoroughly before washing, use lukewarm water, and stroke the shampoo from the roots to the ends instead of rubbing, then rinse thoroughly.
How often should I wash them?
Two to three times a week. Extensions get no supply from the scalp and can't regrease themselves. Washing daily is the fastest way to ruin a set.
Conditioner and treatment
After every wash, apply conditioner only to the lengths and ends, never to the bonds. Use a mask or treatment once or twice a week. Silicone-free is better.
Drying and blow-drying
Gently squeeze out the water, don't rub. Let it dry until towel-dry first, then blow-dry on medium heat, always with heat protection and from top to bottom. Never go to bed with wet hair.
Brushing
Only use an extensions brush or soft bristles, and gently detangle several times a day, working from the ends upward. Don't comb wet hair.
At night
Braid loosely or tie into a ponytail, sleep on silk or satin, and detangle in the morning from the bottom up.
Sun, chlorine, sea
Avoid long sunbathing, chlorinated water and seawater. Braid your hair when swimming and rinse it thoroughly afterward.

Where can I buy Genius Weft?
At EchtHaar Direkt, you can get Genius Weft made from 100% human hair to measure, in 40 to 130 cm, from 100 g, in over 70 colors or a custom color. Genius Weft is thin and can be cut freely to size, which makes it a great fit for fine hair. Wefts cost from €211.00 in 40 cm with 100 g, and Genius Weft costs slightly more than Machine Weft.
What is the difference between Genius Weft and Machine Weft?
The edge. Genius Weft is hand-tied, very thin, and can be cut freely without fraying. Machine Weft is machine-sewn, sturdier and thicker, but needs to be sealed after cutting.
How long does it take to have extensions put in?
For a full set of Bondings, allow three to five hours; for Wefts, one to two hours; for Tape Extensions, one to two hours. Moving them up takes about as long as the first installation.
How long should you wait to wash extensions after they've been put in?
48 hours for keratin Bondings, 48 to 72 hours for tapes, 24 hours for Nano and Micro Rings, and 24 to 48 hours for sewn-in wefts. The adhesive and the keratin need this time to set firmly.
Are extensions also available in 120 or 130 cm?
Yes. With us, all lengths from 40 to 130 centimeters can be selected in five-centimeter steps, including 125 and 130. This is not a special request, but a standard option in the configurator. From 85 centimeters, you should allow for roughly 150 grams for fine hair, 200 grams for normal hair and 250 grams for thick hair per extension, so that the length also looks full.
Where can I buy Butterfly Weft?
At EchtHaar Direkt, Butterfly Weft is available made to measure from 100% human hair from Vietnam, in 40 to 130 cm, from 100 g, in over 70 colors or a custom color matched from a photo. Butterfly Weft costs a little more than Machine Weft.
How long do sewn-in wefts last?
The sewn-in weft stays in place for 6 to 8 weeks, then it gets moved up: open the rings, reposition the weft higher, and close them again. The hair itself lasts 1 to 2 years with good care.
Which type of Weft suits fine hair?
Genius Weft. It is handmade, has no thick seam and can be cut at any point. It is our recommendation for fine natural hair.
How much weft hair do I need?
For added density, 100 grams is usually enough; for a full length extension, 150 to 200 grams. With Machine, Genius and Flat Weft, 100 grams yields roughly 0.6 to 1.2 meters of weft.
What is the difference between Machine, Flat and Genius Weft?
Machine Weft is the classic machine-made weft with a thicker seam, sturdy and affordable. Flat Weft lies flat but is machine-reinforced. Genius Weft is the thinnest option, handmade and freely customizable in size.
Do Wefts need heat or glue?
No. Wefts are sewn on with micro rings. That makes them the method with the lowest strain on your natural hair.
Can I install Wefts myself?
As a clip-in, yes. Sewn-in belongs in a hairdresser's hands, because the sectioning and the tension of the stitching decide whether it holds and whether it pulls. You can find a salon partner via Find a stylist.
Are Wefts checked before shipping?
Yes. Every set is made according to your selection, and you receive a photo before shipping. If the color doesn't match, we'll adjust it free of charge.

“I'm truly more than satisfied! 🤍 The hair is really nice and thick from top to bottom and doesn't get thinner toward the ends, which is something I've unfortunately experienced with many other extensions. It feels incredibly soft and really like my own hair, not at all artificial or straw-like. I was also especially impressed by the app. It's super quick to find your way around, you can order in a totally relaxed way and …”

"I've been wearing the new extensions for almost two weeks now and I'm really thrilled. The hair is very fine and soft, but still has a beautiful fullness. They're also super easy to style, and the ends look gorgeous too. I only had to dye the color slightly darker before applying them – but better that way than the other way around. Next time I'll just order a shade darker. 😊 Especially …“

Unfortunately, the ponytail isn't well combed out. Since I chose the highest quality level, I'm disappointed that there is so much short hair mixed in. The quality is good overall, but this significantly reduces the value of the product and also means that after combing out I no longer have the fullness I wanted.
