You can buy Keratin Bondings made to measure at EchtHaar Direkt, in twelve strand weights from 0.3 to 1.4 g and in 19 lengths from 40 to 130 cm, ab 184,33 €. Keratin Bondings are strands of real human hair that are attached to your own hair one at a time — each strand individually, with a keratin tip and a heat tool. If you’re looking to buy strands of real hair, this is almost always exactly what you mean. Remy human hair: the cuticle layer runs in one direction. With us, you choose the length, strand weight, texture and color yourself; your order is then made individually for you, in 19 lengths from 40 to 130 centimeters.

Weight Definition, 100 g Bundle

  • The stated total weight (e.g. 100 g) is always binding.

  • The number of strands results from the selected strand weight.

Example:

  • 100 g at 1.0 g ≈ approx. 100 strands

  • 100 g at 0.9 g = approx. 110 strands
  • 100 g at 0.5 g ≈ approx. 200 strands

  • 100 g at 1.4 g ≈ approx. 71 strands

Weight tolerances occur exclusively within standard production norms; the total weight remains decisive.

Available Methods

The variable strand weight is available for:

  • I-Tip

  • U-Tip

  • V-Tip

  • Flat-Tip

  • Nano Ring

  • Micro Ring

All methods are made precisely to the selected strand weight.

Length, Quantity and Color

You can choose lengths from 40 to 130 centimeters and quantities from 100 to 300 grams, plus the texture and the color. For simple thickening, 100 grams is usually enough; for a full lengthening, 150 to 200 grams is common. If no color fits, we’ll make your desired color for you. For noticeably more length without going extra long, many women choose human hair extensions in 70 cm; you’ll find all the brown shades at a glance in our brown human hair extensions.

Who Bondings Are Suited For

Bondings sit individually and can therefore be distributed very precisely. That makes them the first choice when a specific area should be thickened or when you often wear your hair up: single strands are less noticeable than wide wefts or tapes. They need stronger natural hair than tapes, because the weight hangs on just a few points. For fine natural hair, thinner strand weights are the right choice, see the table above.

What Does Having Them Fitted at the Salon Cost?

Salons in Germany usually charge 150 to 300 euros in labor for fitting Bondings, depending on quantity and region. The hair is extra. Because Bondings last the longest, over the course of a year they are often no more expensive than a method that has to be renewed more frequently. Our cost calculator works out both together, and you can find a partner salon stylist via Find a Stylist.

Texture: From Straight to Curly

Every length and every color is available in six textures. Choose one that matches your natural hair — otherwise the difference will be noticeable as soon as you wear your hair down:

  • Straight
  • Slightly wavy
  • Normal wavy
  • Strongly wavy
  • Permed
  • Curly

Because it’s real hair, every texture can also be straightened or curled afterwards — with heat protection and preferably at 160 to 180 degrees.

Payment

You can pay by invoice or in installments via Klarna, as well as by PayPal, credit card, Apple Pay or bank transfer.

The Seven Types of Bondings — and the One Question That Sorts Them

Flat-Tip, K-Tip, U-Tip, V-Tip, I-Tip, Nano Ring, Micro Ring: seven names, but only two basic principles. The question behind them is: with heat or without?

The keratin family — Flat-Tip, K-Tip, U-Tip, V-Tip — has a solid tip made of keratin, the same protein your hair is made of. It is melted on with a heat tool and sealed all the way around the strand of your own hair. Because nothing can slip out to the side, this connection lasts the longest.

The ring family — I-Tip, Nano Ring, Micro Ring — needs no heat at all. The strand is threaded together with your own hair through a small metal ring, which is then pressed flat. Purely mechanical, and can be opened again at any time.

  • Flat-Tip — flat, wide tip. Lies the flattest and is barely noticeable when lying down. For anyone who lies down a lot or often wears her hair up.
  • K-Tip — cut flat and angular, distributes the weight more widely than a round tip. For normal to thick hair density.
  • U-Tip — the classic nail shape with more keratin. Very robust, but more noticeable. For thick hair and long wear.
  • V-Tip — narrower than the U-Tip, with less material. More discreet, somewhat more delicate. For finer hair when you want keratin.
  • I-Tip — straight stick tip without any bonding effect, fixed exclusively with a ring. For heat-sensitive hair.
  • Nano Ring — the smallest ring, around two millimeters. The most discreet connection of all, for very fine hair and thin hair on top.
  • Micro Ring — larger ring, three to four millimeters. Carries more weight, but is somewhat more visible.

All seven side by side, with a table and a recommendation for each hair type, can be found in Which Connection Is Right for You?

Which One Suits Your Hair?

  • Very fine hair, thin hair on top: Nano Ring or Flat-Tip in a small strand weight. What matters is the combination of a small connection and little weight per strand. When extensions harm your natural hair and how to avoid it is explained in Are Extensions Harmful?
  • Normal density, long wear without fuss: K-Tip or Flat-Tip. Both flat, both durable — the right choice for most women.
  • Strong, thick hair, large quantity: U-Tip or Micro Ring. Both carry more weight per attachment point.
  • Sensitive scalp or freshly bleached hair: Nano Ring, Micro Ring or I-Tip. No heat, no keratin, can be opened at any time.

A point that is often left unsaid: heat is not a disadvantage — wrong heat is. The tool heats the keratin, not your hair, and works far below the temperature of a flat iron. Damage comes from heating for too long or working too close to the scalp, not from the method.

How Long Do Bondings Last?

Two answers, and if you don’t keep them apart, you’ll be disappointed.

The connection lasts eight to twelve weeks with keratin, six to ten with the ring methods. That isn’t wear and tear, but hair growth: around one to one and a half centimeters per month. From about three centimeters of distance from the scalp, things start to look uneven.

The hair itself lasts one to two years with good care. With good quality, two to three re-fitting rounds are usual — which gives you a total wear time of nine to sixteen months from a single set. You pay for the hair once and for the labor several times.

What matters is not the age, but the condition of the ends. As long as the hair combs through easily and the ends don’t fray, it can be moved up again. This is exactly where cheap hair separates from good hair: with silicone-coated hair, the first round still looks good, the second no longer does. You’ll find all methods compared in How Long Do Extensions Last?

Re-fitting Instead of Buying New

When re-fitting, the strands are loosened, the old keratin residue is removed, the strands are prepared and set again close to the scalp with fresh keratin. For Keratin Bondings every three to four months, for ring methods every six to ten weeks.

After that, the most important rule applies: do not wash for the first 24 to 48 hours. How the appointment works and how to tell whether reconditioning is still worthwhile can be found in Re-fitting Bondings.

Removing Bondings

Keratin Bondings are loosened, not torn out. The order is what matters: first soften, then open, then pull out. If you reverse it, you pull out your own hair along with them.

The process for a whole head takes 45 to 90 minutes: section dry hair into horizontal parts, apply a few drops of keratin remover directly onto the connection (not on the scalp), let it work for 20 to 60 seconds — the keratin becomes soft and rubbery, not liquid. Then break it open crosswise with the bonding pliers in two to three short presses and gently pull the strand off in the direction of hair growth. If it’s stuck, go back to the remover. Resistance always means: too little remover or too little time.

The five most common mistakes: working without remover · household remedies like oil, alcohol or nail polish remover instead of remover · wet hair (the keratin swells, the pliers slip) · squeezing too roughly instead of opening · coming in too late, because the roots are already matted by then. You’ll find it step by step in Removing Bondings.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bonding Extensions

How long do Keratin Bondings last?

The connection lasts eight to twelve weeks, then it’s time to re-fit. The hair itself lasts one to two years with good care — it survives several rounds.

Are Bondings harmful to my natural hair?

Not when done cleanly. What comes out in clumps after removal is almost always hair that fell out quite normally during the wear time and stayed caught in the bonding instead of falling out. A person loses 50 to 100 hairs a day — over three months of wear, that adds up to several thousand. That looks dramatic, but it isn’t damage.

What does removal at the salon cost?

The going rate in German salons is around 0.50 to 1.50 euros per strand or 60 to 150 euros as a flat fee for a whole head. If you have new ones fitted in the same appointment, removal is often discounted. These are going salon prices, not prices from EchtHaar Direkt — we make and deliver the hair.

What does re-fitting cost?

The going rate is roughly 1.00 to 2.50 euros per strand for removal, reconditioning, re-bonding and fitting combined, or 150 to 400 euros as a flat fee. Compared with a completely new set, it’s almost always the more affordable choice. Everything added up can be found in the cost calculator.

Can I remove Bondings myself?

Technically yes, but only partly advisable. The back of the head has the most strands — and that’s exactly where you can’t see anything. If you do it yourself, you need three things: a proper keratin remover, bonding pliers and a second person. The realistic middle path: do the side sections yourself, have the back done at the salon.

Do Bondings work for fine hair?

Yes, but the combination has to be right: a small connection and little weight per strand. Nano Ring or Flat-Tip in a small strand weight. For very fine hair, Tape Extensions are often the gentler choice, because the weight is spread over a surface instead of a single point.

Are Bondings the same as strands of real hair?

In everyday use, yes. “Strands of real hair” is the term most people use; in the trade, they are named after their connection — Keratin Bondings for the heat method, I-Tip for the ring method. Both times, the same thing is meant: a single strand of real hair that is attached to your own hair. Not the same are wefts (one continuous track) and tapes (two bonded surfaces).

Which lengths are available?

Nineteen lengths in five-centimeter steps, from 40 to 130 centimeters — including the extra-long lengths that are otherwise hard to find. Where your desired length ends is shown in Extensions Lengths from 40 to 130 cm.

💡 Reading Tip

Before you order, three questions that make all the difference:

How Keratin Bonding Extensions are applied

  1. Your natural hair is divided into sections. For each Bonding, a strand of your natural hair is taken that weighs about as much as the extension strand. This is the basic rule against tension.
  2. The keratin at the end of the strand is fused with the heat tool and rolled around the strand of natural hair. The bond is fully closed and slim.
  3. With Nano Ring and Micro Ring, a small ring is crimped instead of keratin, completely without heat.
  4. If your natural hair is fine, choose thinner strands, 0.3 to 0.6 grams. The weight is then distributed across more points.

How long Bondings last

Two numbers you need to keep apart: The attachment lasts until your own hair has carried it too far down, about one centimeter per month. The hair itself lasts significantly longer and is reused when it is moved up. You pay for the hair once and for the labor several times.

Bond, until moving upHair, with good care
moved up after 8 to 12 weeks1 to 2 years with good care, over several move-up rounds

Extra lengths: 125 and 130 centimeters

With us, the selection doesn't stop at 60 or 70 centimeters. All lengths from 40 to 130 centimeters are available in five-centimeter steps — including 100, 110, 120, 125 and 130. You select them in the configurator just like any other length. No special request, no surcharge for special wishes, no extra waiting time on top.

What you should plan for with extra length

  • More weight. The same fullness needs significantly more grams at 120 centimeters than at 45. For a full look from 85 centimeters, 150 to 250 grams is typical depending on hair density, not 100.
  • Don't skimp on fullness at the ends. The longer the hair, the more noticeable it is when the ends get thinner. From 100 centimeters, 80 or 95 to 100 percent is worth it.
  • The price rises evenly, in fixed steps of 5 centimeters each — not in sudden jumps just because it's called a "special length."
  • Care becomes more important. Very long hair gets the least of what the scalp provides at the ends. Wash two to three times a week, and always apply conditioner to the lengths afterward.

Caring for Bondings

What do I wash extensions with?

Only with a sulfate-free and alcohol-free shampoo, ideally one made for extensions or dry hair. Brush through thoroughly before washing, use lukewarm water, and stroke the shampoo from the roots to the ends instead of rubbing, then rinse thoroughly.

How often should I wash them?

Two to three times a week. Extensions get no supply from the scalp and can't regrease themselves. Washing daily is the fastest way to ruin a set.

Conditioner and treatment

After every wash, apply conditioner only to the lengths and ends, never to the bonds. Use a mask or treatment once or twice a week. Silicone-free is better.

Drying and blow-drying

Gently squeeze out the water, don't rub. Let it dry until towel-dry first, then blow-dry on medium heat, always with heat protection and from top to bottom. Never go to bed with wet hair.

Brushing

Only use an extensions brush or soft bristles, and gently detangle several times a day, working from the ends upward. Don't comb wet hair.

At night

Braid loosely or tie into a ponytail, sleep on silk or satin, and detangle in the morning from the bottom up.

Sun, chlorine, sea

Avoid long sunbathing, chlorinated water and seawater. Braid your hair when swimming and rinse it thoroughly afterward.

Frequently asked questions about keratin bonding extensions

Where can I buy 0.5 g Bondings?

At EchtHaar Direkt, you choose the strand weight yourself in the configurator, in twelve steps from 0.3 to 1.4 g, so 0.5 g is also available. 100 g at 0.5 g is around 200 strands. For fine hair, 0.3 to 0.6 g is right; if you've worn 1 g so far, it's best to start with 0.5 or 0.6 g.

Can I buy extensions with Klarna or pay in installments?

Yes. Klarna is enabled for all our products, including Keratin Bondings. At checkout, choose "Klarna (invoice, installments or instant bank transfer)" and then select in Klarna whether you want to pay by invoice, in installments or immediately. Which of these options are shown to you is decided by Klarna when you place your order. We don't add any surcharge to the price for Klarna. Whether Klarna charges any costs for installment payments, you'll see before you complete your purchase. Business customers pay by invoice via Billie. All Klarna options: echthaardirekt.de/extensions-mit-klarna/

How many strands are 100 g of Bondings?

That depends on the strand thickness: at 0.3 g, 100 g gives you about 333 strands, at 0.6 g about 167 and at 1 g about 100. At EchtHaar Direkt, you choose the thickness from 0.3 g to 1.4 g. For fine hair, 0.3 to 0.6 g per strand is common, and for normal density 0.8 to 1 g. Tapes and wefts are calculated in grams, not by the piece.

What is the difference between K-Tip and U-Tip?

The shape of the keratin tip. K-Tip is flat and angular and sits flatter against the head, U-Tip is rounded like a nail and more robust. Both are sealed with heat and last about equally long.

Which is better, Nano Ring or Micro Ring?

Nano is smaller and less noticeable, ideal for fine hair and thin top layers. Micro carries more weight and is the more stable choice for normal density.

Are extensions also available in 120 or 130 cm?

Yes. With us, all lengths from 40 to 130 centimeters can be selected in five-centimeter steps, including 125 and 130. This is not a special request, but a standard option in the configurator. From 85 centimeters, you should allow for roughly 150 grams for fine hair, 200 grams for normal hair and 250 grams for thick hair per extension, so that the length also looks full.

How long do Bondings last?

The bond lasts 8 to 12 weeks, then it gets moved up. The hair lasts 1 to 2 years with good care. Calculated over a year, Bondings are usually no more expensive than a method that has to be renewed more often.

Which strand thickness is right?

The standard is 1 gram. For fine natural hair, 0.3 to 0.6 grams work better because the weight is spread across more points. 100 grams at 0.5 grams per strand is around 200 strands, at 1 gram around 100.

How are Bondings moved up?

Apply remover to the bond, let it soften, open it with pliers, and gently pull it off. The strand is cleaned, the keratin is renewed, and it is reapplied close to the scalp. The same hair, worn once more.

Flat-Tip, I-Tip, U-Tip: what's the difference?

This is the shape of the keratin at the end of the strand. Flat-tip is flat and sits close to the hair, U-tip is rolled around the strand, and I-tip is stick-shaped and usually applied with a ring rather than heat. Nano rings and micro rings work entirely without heat.

Are Bondings suitable for fine hair?

Yes, with a thinner strand thickness. Bondings sit individually and can be distributed very precisely, which is why they're the first choice when an area needs to be thickened in a targeted way or you often wear your hair up.

Can I install Bondings myself?

We advise against this: Bondings are fused at the root with a heat tool, and each strand of natural hair has to match the bonding strand exactly. The wrong strand thickness can break your natural hair. You won't save any money doing this at home, you'll be risking your own hair. You can find a stylist near you via Find a Stylist.

Is the bond visible?

The keratin bond is fully closed and slim, so it's less noticeable than tapes or wefts, even when you wear your hair up.

Are Bondings checked before shipping?

Yes. Every set is made according to your selection and strand thickness, and you receive a photo before shipping. If the color doesn't match, we'll adjust it free of charge.

“I'm truly more than satisfied! 🤍 The hair is really nice and thick from top to bottom and doesn't get thinner toward the ends, which is something I've unfortunately experienced with many other extensions. It feels incredibly soft and really like my own hair, not at all artificial or straw-like. "I've been wearing the new extensions for almost two weeks now and I'm really thrilled. The hair is very fine and soft, but still has a beautiful fullness. They're also super easy to style, and the ends look gorgeous too. I only had to dye the color slightly darker before applying them – but better that way than the other way around.
