If you are searching for “long tape extensions”, you most likely want long hair with tapes. That there is also a tape type called Long Tape only becomes clear in the configurator. Here, both are explained, and above all: what becomes important with long hair at the adhesive area.

Long Tape as a tape type: the longer adhesive area

A Tape Extension consists of two ultra-thin mini wefts with adhesive area that enclose a strand of your own hair from above and below. With Normal Tape, this adhesive area is medium-width. With Long Tape, it is made longer: per 100 g of hair, 1.3 to 1.6 m of tape band come together. Each tape therefore covers more area, you need fewer attachment points, and the stylist finishes faster. The trade-off: less freedom of movement when styling, because the wide adhesive area is more noticeable when hair is pinned up than many small ones.

Long Tape in extra length: tapes in 80, 100 and 130 cm

In retail, Tape Extensions usually end at 60 or 70 cm. With us, every length from 40 to 130 cm in 5 cm steps is a standard choice, in all tape types. You can find the full range under Tape In Extensions. However, long tapes are not simply short tapes with more hair. Three things change:

• The weight per adhesive area increases. 100 g of hair in 130 cm pulls on the same adhesive area as 100 g in 40 cm, except that each strand is more than three times as long and has more leverage when moving, brushing and sleeping. That is why Normal Tapes or Long Tapes make sense in extra length: they distribute the weight over a wider adhesive area. Mini Tapes are the second choice at 80 cm and above.
• The quantity must match the length. Long ends quickly look thin, because your own hair ends somewhere and from there only the extensions are visible. From 80 cm, plan on 150 to 200 g, and more if your own hair is thick. The table by length and hair density is under How many grams of extensions do I need.
• The density of the ends determines the look. 50% end density is the base price and looks naturally tapered. For very long lengths, many customers choose 80% (+19%) or 95 to 100% (+38%) so the ends stay full all the way down.

Where 80, 100 or 130 cm end on the body is shown in the length preview; as a guide: at a body height of about 165 cm, 80 cm ends at the hip, 100 cm at the thigh and 130 cm above the middle of the thigh. What else changes with extra length is explained under Real Hair Extensions 100 cm.

Who long tapes suit, and who they don’t

Tapes are the gentle method for fine and normal hair, because the weight rests on an area instead of one point, and no heat is used. This also applies in extra length, as long as the quantity is not overdone. Anyone who wants to wear 130 cm with 300 g on fine natural hair will overload the adhesive areas. For very fine hair and a desire for extra length, two approaches are more honest: fewer grams in Long Tapes, or keratin bondings in fine strand sizes, which distribute the weight over many small points. Your own hair must not be too short: the adhesive area needs about 10 to 12 cm of your own hair to be concealed. And with an oily scalp, tapes of any length are demanding, because oil dissolves the adhesive.

Durability: two figures, even at 130 cm

The adhesive bond lasts 4 to 8 weeks, after which the tapes are released, the hair is cleaned and reattached with fresh adhesive tape. This is the shortest interval of all methods, because the adhesive area lies flat against the scalp and becomes noticeable as soon as the regrowth reaches about two centimetres. The hair itself lasts 1 to 2 years with good care and survives several rounds. With extra length, the care of the lengths determines this second figure: brushing daily from the bottom upwards, a loose plait at night, oil only on the lengths and never on the adhesive area.
